How To Update Your Home for Spring

Ahhh…spring.  The birds are chirping, the grass is getting greener, and flowers are starting to pop up everywhere.  It’s the time of year when you want to open up the windows and breathe in the fresh, clean air.   It is also that time of year when the urge strikes to spring clean!  Out with the heavy, dark textures of winter and in with bright, vibrant colors of sunshine and summertime!  But how do you bring on the spring fever without emptying the wallet?  Check out my tips and top products for Spring 2017 below.

Tip #1:  Bring in a bit of green

As many of you know, the 2017 color of the year is “Greenery.”  The Pantone website describes greenery as “nature’s neutral, a life-affirming shade emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.”  Sounds like spring to me!  Try a new throw blanket or a green throw pillow for a pop of green without a huge commitment like wallpaper or a bold furniture piece.

Tip #2:  Don’t be afraid of bold color

Spring is a great time to experiment with new bold, vibrant colors.  Have you been eyeing a hot pink Moroccan pouf?  Or how about a bright turquoise patio sofa?  Whatever color has been on your mind, go for it!  Start out with a piece of art or a new set of hand towels, and if the color makes you happy, go big with a new accent chair or table lamp.  After all, it’s the time for new beginnings, right?!

Tip #3:  Keep it light and bright

In keeping with the season, think light and bright when it comes to new furniture and home decor.  Consider switching out your bedding for a simple white duvet set and infuse a little spring with a colorful pillow or quilt.  You can also switch out decorative accessories such as vases and coasters for a quick and easy way to brighten up any space.

Tip #4:  Discover flower power

There’s nothing quite like a vase of fresh tulips or lilies to make any room feel inviting and homey.  If you aren’t ready to spring for new decor or furniture, fill your home with fresh flowers to bring a touch of the outdoors in.  For extra flower power, visit a farmer’s market and support local growers!

Tip #5: Start small

If you aren’t ready for a major overhaul of your home or don’t want to switch out your decorative accessories, start small with a brightly-colored notebook or a new spring-inspired water bottle.  Just seeing the pop of color sitting on your desk will brighten your mood–who knows, you might just be inspired to “spring into action” in other areas of your life! 😉
