  1. Choose accessories with varying heights and weights.  The key to a beautifully-styled coffee table is in the balance of large and small decorative objects.  As a rule, I like to layer in accessories with at least (3) different heights.
  2. Bring in a touch of green. Most beautiful coffee table layouts have a plant, succulent, or fresh floral arrangement.  Having a touch of green provides a pop of color and adds life to your decor arrangement.

  3. Stick to displays in odd numbers.  This is a pro tip that works every time.  Always use an odd number of objects to prevent your design from looking too symmetrical or “matchy-matchy.”
  4. Add books.  Beautiful hard-cover books are the key to the perfect coffee table decor.  Find 1-3 books that have gorgeous covers and reflect your personality to keep on permanent display.

  5. Add an element of surprise. I always like to add an element of surprise to my coffee table layouts–be that a unique sculpture or funky object.  Maybe it’s a vintage find from a flea market that I haven’t found a home for yet–whatever it is, stick to one unique element to keep things from being over-the-top.
  6. Add a Tray.  I love adding a tray to my coffee table decor layouts.  A tray adds a layer of depth to the design and is also great to hold objects, floral arrangements, and/or books.  Consider a fun design or pop of color to take your coffee table to the next level.

  7. Stack boxes.  Decorative boxes are a great way to add height (and house unsightly items such as the remote!).
  8. Less is More. While you don’t want your coffee table to look bare, you definitely don’t want things to feel cluttered.  Use your best judgment based on the size of your coffee table, and remove items if it feels like there is too much going on.
